White Sangria – Blissful White Wine Recipe

White Sangria

Sassy Summer Wine

When I first purchased my home, I invited everyone over for the typical ‘housewarming’ party. Mostly I wanted to show off my new digs, but gifts are always good too. A family friend brought a pitcher – it was a typical pitcher, clear plastic, nothing fancy – but what was in it was gold. She had put together a white sangria and it was divine.

Typically when one thinks about sangria they think red wine, and that’s the traditional method. I however enjoy white wines more than reds and this recipe blends the crispness of a white wine with the sweet blends of summer fruit. She told me the recipe and the secret to making it great and it turned out to be one of the best housewarming gifts I received.

I have shared it with friends an family over the last (has it been 6?!?) years, and now I am sharing it with you.

1 1/2 cups mixed colorful fruit (oranges, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) cut into bite sizes or slices.
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup peach brandy
1 bottle of crisp white wine (like a pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc)
3/4 cup sparkling water

Stir together fruit, sugar, and brandy. Cover and refrigerate for 1 day.
Just before serving, pour in wine, and sparkling water, then stir.

Serve in glasses – if the wine wasn’t chilled, place ice cubes in the glasses.  Make sure and spoon some of the fruit out into the glasses as these morsels are the best part of the drink!

I like to enjoy a glass of sangria on a hot summer day, and boy howdy does it get hot around here.  Anyone else out there have alternate ways of making Sangria they would like to share?
